Both Michelle DeCarlo and write in candidate Heather McAuley Puntillo will take the seats of the North Collins School Board. The 2018-19 budget is down $1,553,111, or 8 percent, from the current budget of $19,396,080. Because of a deficit of $600,000, the school proposed a tax levy of 4.27 percent, 2.27 percent above the allotted tax cap. The budget proposal is up by about $240,000 from the current 2017-18 budget, and is subject to district voters' approval in the May 15 election.
A proposition to have the district spend about $1.4 million to purchase eight 66-passenger school buses, one 30-passenger bus, one 23-passenger wheelchair bus and one SUV, was approved -2,362 to 534. The district is eligible for roughly 75 percent reimbursement for these vehicle purchases through state School Transportation Aid.
Elected to three-year terms on the Board of Education were Diana Armstead, with 1,161 votes, Michael O'Donnell, with 1,178, and Glenn LaPolt, with 1,114 votes.
Voters also elected members to their respective boards of education. The district said the results for the write-ins will be tallied and announced Wednesday. She'll serve a three-year term.
