"I think everyone just knows that you can't quit, never quit".
The Winnipeg Jets came back from three goals down, put on an incredible performance in the second period, got two goals each from leaders Blake Wheeler and Dustin Byfuglien (who was outstanding) and then scored two empty netters to beat the Nashville Predators 7-4 in Game 3 of the best of seven Western Conference semifinal (Central Division final). After the Predators killed off the power play, Winnipeg tilted the ice, resulting in Brandon Tanev scoring his second of the series, tying the game at three. The Jets showed an incredible response after a awful first period and who is surprised that the drivers of the comeback were captain Blake Wheeler (two goals, including the victor, and an assist), Byfuglien and Paul Stastny ... The Jets goalie looked downright poor in the first period, but that stop was a game-saver and it set the stage for some late heroics from Wheeler ... They then went ahead before the intermission on Byfuglien's second goal of the game.
The Jets made up for that by scoring twice 29 seconds apart to grab the lead. They ended the regular season with nine straight victories at home, giving them 12 in a row heading into Game 3 against Nashville.
The Winnipeg Jets took the momentum of the second period and took it into the third period. I remember when I was in college and Jerred Smithson scored an overtime goal against the Ducks in the playoffs. CNBC, CBC and TVA will air the game, which gets going at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 1.
With less than three minutes remaining in the period, Austin Watson scored off a bad change from the Winnipeg Jets and increased the lead to 3-0. Now he has eight goals in the playoffs in only seven games.
"We just went out to win a period", said Wheeler, when asked about what was said during the first period. "Those who are on the fringe may not see exactly the same but again it's that exposure and people may come back a different time after the whiteout street parties".
"We had our chances, they had their chances". He said his team won't be phased by the more than 15,000 fanatics who will be dressed in white on Tuesday and screaming themselves hoarse. You drive home and there are signs everywhere. The good news for the Jets is that they now have home-ice advantage and they have been one of the best home teams in the league.
The last team to beat the Jets in Winnipeg was Nashville, with a 6-5 win on February 27. The team is 5-1 overall in those games. Offence. A comeback. An unbelievable crowd.
This was a play that no matter what the call on the ice was they were going to stick with it given the replay angles they had to work with. It was their second power play of the period and P.K. Subban scored to increase the lead.
"I've probably danced a couple times in my day", Byfuglien said. He was playing right. "He really comes to play". And then there's an offensive side, whether it's a perfectly placed shot or quick hands or all the other things he can do offensively. Trouble is, it hit the camera stanchion inside the goal and the official, standing right there, missed it.
The Jets have an wonderful offense and when Hellebuyck is at his best too, it's very hard to stop them.
Per Tennessean, Carrie hinted that she may have been booked for the game earlier this year after promising that there were some "great surprises" in store for Predators fans this season.
"That was chaos", Stastny said.
"The more energy, the more excitement there is in the game, he can take his game to another level", Maurice said.
