Tiger Woods makes SHOCK Masters claim after making cut at Augusta

"I kept myself out of trouble and allowed my putter to do the work", Reed said.

Stenson (70) was four shots behind. "So I'm really excited to go out there tomorrow, show everyone what I've got, show Patrick Reed what I've got and, you know, all the pressure is on him tomorrow".

"I rode my luck a little bit out there today", McIlroy conceded.

Prior to this year, Reed had never shot a round in the 60s at Augusta National through 12 tries.

He is the only player in the field to make birdie on every par 5 both rounds.

His first round saw him land a 69 keep pace with leader Jordan Spieth while day the Northern Irish man shot a 70 to give himself a real chance over the weekend.

Forecasts call for steady showers all day, the kind of weather that should soften up what had become a hard and fast test. "I hooded the club a lot and just swung into-out, and the ball comes out like that". I can just be relaxed going on to the first tee, not being too concerned about trying to get those birdies back.

Tiger Woods, who has been the buzz all week, birdied only 13th and 15th, but dropped shots on three other holes and he had a double bogey on Par-3 fifth as he shot 75 following 73 on first day.

"If you can perform and have confidence on the major courses, it's going to help you all the way through no matter what you're doing".

He hit four out of 14 fairways, but said his real problem continued to be poor iron play.

"Sometimes pars might be a little bit boring and you might feel as if you want to get a little bit more out of your round, but as you look up the leaderboard and you're still there around the lead, that's taken awhile for me to adjust to". I didn't know what my position was, but I think I'm in, " he said after his round. "I feel like I learned a lot that day and hopefully it will put me in good stead for this week and can be sitting here Sunday night". Having won once, finished second twice and T-11 once in four appearances at the Masters, he is back at the pole position that included an awesome streak of five birdies form 13th to 17th, only to followed by a bogey on 18th. It's a place that I'm thankfully quite familiar with and know how to deal with. They're a fine line. But this experience is invaluable.

"But now I am ready", he said. Leishman sits alone in second at seven under.

Reed, the king of DGAF, wore Tiger's traditional outfit when the two played together in the second round of the 2014 Hero World Challenge. Woods opened with two consecutive bogeys en route to an even-par 72 that ended any slim hopes he may have had of slipping into a Green Jacket on Sunday. Read about his travails here.

Right behind them are five major champions. Read about the big names lurking here. Johnson had a 68 and was six shots behind, along with Thomas, who had a 67.

Two-time victor Bubba Watson is on six-under, as are European No 1 Tommy Fleetwood and Australian Marc Leishman, while 2015 victor Jordan Spieth is a shot further back along with last year's US PGA champion Justin Thomas.

Phil Mickelson, meanwhile, matched his highest-ever score at the Masters with a 79.

But Sergio Garcia faces a long weekend hanging around to present the Green Jacket to this year's victor, the defending champion finishing third from bottom on 15 over after a 78, with his tournament effectively over following his disastrous 13 at the 15th on day one.
