She is the first American woman to win the race since 1985.
"That had to be the toughest conditions I've ever done a race", Peck, a biology professor at Colby College, said.
Linden's run was a memorable one not only for her triumph over the conditions, but also for her sportsmanship displayed on the course.

"I knew she was in very good shape. Most people probably lost 10-15 minutes off their time or more, so I was pretty happy with that". I'm going to blow up.
After the race, Sellers said the elite runners were supportive.
Through SVC's three games last week, Safford amassed 14 goals, eight ground balls, four draw controls, two caused turnovers and an assist. "Along the way we have moments where I didn't know if I would come back from the femur fracture".
