After these clips aired, Christopher Darden, one of Simpson's prosecutors from his criminal trial, said plainly on the program, "I think he's confessed to murder". Simpson said he had words with Goldman and his ex-wife that escalated.
"He may try to describe it as a hypothetical, but of course, it becomes "I" - 'I did this, ' 'I felt this, ' 'I saw this, '" Darden said.
Simpson starts his interview in third person, saying a friend named "Charlie" - a name the host suggested - told him something was going on at his ex-wife's house, presumably referring to her romantic relationship with Goldman. "I took the knife from Charlie, and to be honest, after that, I don't remember, except I'm standing there and there's all kinda stuff around".
Judith Regan, who conducted the interview in 2006 for the book, "If I Did It", pressed Simpson: "What kind of stuff?" "Blood and stuff... everything was covered, would have been covered in blood... it was frightful". "It seems more likely that he just forgets that he has to be very vigilant about maintaining the facade of the hypothetical".
Years ago, OJ Simpson spoke about the slaying of his ex-wife and her friend in a chilling interview.
When Regan explained that Simpson's children were in the house at the time of the murders he quickly said he didn't want to bring his kids into the mess.
They released the book as If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer with the "If" disguised in the design.
Regan reminded O.J. that he said in the book he removed his glove, which Simpson also said he didn't remember.
Correction: An earlier version of this story said Fox News had broadcast the Simpson special. The audacity of the interview, even one that is now a dozen years old, remains stunning.
DEGGANS: Journalist Soledad O'Brien hosted Sunday's special, leading discussion among a panel that included Darden, Regan, a friend of Brown's, an Federal Bureau of Investigation profiler and an expert on spousal abuse.
"He said, 'I've got this box of tapes here". "I don't think there's any question in his involvement". He also admits to dropping a glove on the property - which we all know he was referencing the infamous glove at the scene of the crime that didn't fit him. But the outrage led to Fox yanking both projects and company chieftain Rupert Murdoch issuing a public apology. Regan asks what he means and Simpson replies: "Blood and stuff around". Some believe that this interview is evidence of Simpson actually admitting he was responsible for the murders. The answer is probably that he didn't have much to lose.
Fred Goldman, center, father of Ron Goldman, who was murdered in 1994, speaks to reporters after O.J. Simpson's sentencing hearing outside the Clark County Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas, December 5, 2008. Having lost the civil case to the Goldmans, there wasn't any financial incentive to stay quiet either. He says Charlie came over to Simpson's home, told him what was going on and Simpson responded, "Whatever is going on it's gotta stop!"
