"I mean what I say, I mean what I feel and I'm ready for whoever". That seems rather straightforward, but the business of boxing is often something that gets in the way instead of moving things forward. Heavyweights Odlanier Solis, Mike Perez and Ortiz all followed the baddest, rudest and craziest Cuban boxer of all, Jorge Louis Gonzalez, across a taboo boundary to the professional game. They put their combinations together well. "He even said that Joshua would stick his jab down my throat and he would hit me one time and I would go down".
Having seen his daughter struggle with spina bifida, the American sympathised with Ortiz, whose little girl was diagnosed with the inherited skin disorder epidermolysis bullosa, and wanted to help him support his family. I want them to do that now and shower me with love now and understand what they are seeing.
Nevertheless, Thomas was keen to state that he found all four very tough and when you consider his spars with Wilder and Joshua came in the last 18 months, you wouldn't argue with his verdict.
Ortiz is a totally different type of fighter, a veteran of over 350 amateur contests and the victim of being at weights in his homeland alongside some great fighters back in Havana. That lasted less than a round.
Ortiz is also a powerful puncher but from the Southpaw side.
"He's a second-time user, I hate to bring it up, but it's fact". Come and test me. "He's blessed with this opportunity, he should be kissing my feet". His last three scheduled opponents, Ortiz, Andrzej Wawrzyk and Alexander Povetkin, all failed drug tests before the fight, forcing promoters to scramble for a replacement fighter to face Wilder.
"I had been taking that medicine for two years". And if that's the case, then Wilder is fighting him at the most opportune time.
"This is going to be like two trains on the same track about to collide".
It would be a huge upset if Ortiz does so.
And that makes the makes the current heavyweight division, if not exactly transcendent, in its own way resurgent.
If Miami-based Ortiz upsets the odds, the appeal for a unification fight with Joshua - presuming he avoids an upset himself in his next fight - would be considerably less than for Joshua-Wilder.
Wilder will put his WBC belt on the line against Ortiz in NY, before Joshua meets WBO champion Joseph Parker in a unification bout on 31 March.
Joshua is thought to have the more authentic record of the two and his stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko in a title bout in which he was dropped and severely tested, overshadows anything Wilder has done to date.
On top of all this the bill includes former heavyweight world champion Charles Martin and former world middleweight title challenger Willie Monroe Jr.in respective eight-round bouts.
Ortiz hasn't been given the benefit of the doubt by fans, media and certainly not Wilder because of his previous PED ordeal. I don't think there's going to be nowhere they are going to be able to run once I do what I'm going to do with Luis Ortiz.
But having said that, that occasion against Bermane Stiverne was put right in the rematch past year - when he brutally rendered the Haitian unconscious in quick time. It's a lot of responsibility and I take it seriously.
"Everyone knows what I'm expecting Saturday night". He said that Joshua would beat me in three rounds. I say I'm the best, they say he's the best.
