Rivers Defends Clippers Decision To Trade Griffin

Griffin has arrived in Detroit now, and on Wednesday the Pistons introduced him and the two other players they received from the Los Angeles Clippers in the blockbuster deal earlier this week.

In exchange for their five-time All-Star forward, the Clippers got forward Tobias Harris, guard Avery Bradley and center Boban Marjanovic, along with draft picks. Stanley Johnson and Luke Kennard, both first rounds picks drafted in 2015 and 2017, respectively, are the only picks as of late who have contributed solidly off the bench and have made an impact on the Pistons rotation.

"No one in the Clippers offices-especially not [Steve] Ballmer or [Doc] Rivers-wanted to trade Griffin". Often, it also means: Here we go again, Are you serious right now? and You gave up WHAT for WHO?

In the aftermath of Griffin's exit, speculation spread that center DeAndre Jordan and high-scoring Lou Williams might soon follow.

The Clippers will pay Griffin $215,000 each of the next four seasons because he had a 15 percent trade kicker, which was activated Monday.

In speaking of paying the price and winning, Detroit faces the Clippers on February 9 and Blake has major revenge on his mind as he is ready for the Clip Show to pay the price on letting go the double-double machine. "And that's why I'm excited about being here".

As for team leadership, owner Tom Gores said he was surprised the deal even got done, and believes Blake is the missing piece they needed. The deal came seven months after Griffin signed a $171 million, five-year contract to stay with Los Angeles. Griffin, who has missed 234 out of a possible 586 regular-season games in his National Basketball Association career (including missing his entire rookie season after knee surgery), will be owed an average of $34.6 million through the 2021-22 season. Trading off Griffin is the first step to acquiring younger players while still being able to compete for a playoff spot, which many fans doubt this season.

"They offered him around to everybody", Young said.

Last week, Love was selected as a reserve for the All-Star Game in Los Angeles and was also invited to participate in the 3-point contest.

"But you know the business, as unfortunate as it looks", James said.

If you're wondering whether Griffin himself was in on the trade discussions. he wasn't. And with the way the league is going, it makes sense that he would be targeted, if available. This is where I want to be. "I did consider the idea of getting a player like Blake and what it could do for the franchise".
