Israel, Iran and the war for Syria

Israel, Iran and the war for Syria

Both pilots survived, though one was seriously wounded.

Israeli F-16 fighter jet crashes under Syrian anti-aircraft fire.

The Post asserted in a February 10, 2018 report ("Israel claims incursion by Iranian drone") that the Jewish state used an Iranian drone's "alleged incursion" into Israeli airspace as a "pretext for Israeli strikes on what it described as Iranian targets in Syria". It's not clear what these surprises are, but Israeli officials have said they intend to "press ahead" with operations inside Syria.

Israel's concern is well-founded.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also stated that his country sought peace but "would defend themselves against any attack from enemies".

"I think that this incident is likely to be contained", he said. "I don't think anybody wants it to escalate further".

"The Pentagon and State Department have already condemned Iran and thrown their support behind Israel".

Al-Rashed believes that when controlling the conflict between Russia, America, Iran, Turkey and Israel fails, Iraq will be the most prone to danger.

Iran has dismissed as "lies" and "ridiculous" the charge that it sent the drone into Israeli airspace.

Syria and Hezbollah celebrated the F-16 shoot-down as a blow to Israeli military superiority. During the IAF operation, Syrian surface-to-air missiles downed an Israeli F-16I fighter jet.

"We heard a big explosion and then sirens". Iran probably understood what Israel was trying to do, as it responded accordingly by taking down an Israeli plane.

Flights at Tel Aviv's global airport were briefly halted, but the area was quiet by mid-afternoon.

Israel said one of its F-16s crashed after it came under fire from Syria. It was in Israeli airspace for about a minute and a half before being shot down by an Israeli Air Force Apache attack helicopter. Also, a couple of Israeli jets were downed by Iran. Because the worldwide circumstances will not allow neither Israel nor Iran to change radically the regional balance of power as they like it.

The Eurasia Group, a New York-based political risk consultancy, said in a commentary that "in order to reinforce deterrence, Israeli leaders will probably assess they need to show Iran, Hezbollah and Syria they will continue to strike targets despite the risk". Gen. Ronen Manelis, said in a statement. Israel has the region's most powerful military. In addition to the tactical success of downing the Israeli jet, Iran and Syria will use this feat for propaganda. He has held his position for so long in part because of his ability to convince Israelis that he is best suited to lead Israel in this existential battle with Iran. It will have serious implications, as Netanyahu has warned that Israel will continue its attacks in Syria.

The two have repeatedly clashed since the start of the Lebanese Civil War in 1982 as Tel Aviv attempted to root out the organization from South Lebanon. Turkey invaded last month against the US-backed Kurdish YPG militia. But its presence comes at the backdrop of two other interventions, by Russian Federation and Turkey, which further complicate the situation for the US.

It was the culmination of a frightening escalation of fighting between competing powers.

They've all learned - Russian Federation from Afghanistan, Iran from the Iran-Iraq war, Israel from south Lebanon, and the US from Iraq and Afghanistan - that their publics will not tolerate large numbers of body bags fighting any ground war in the Middle East. The United Nations has continued to reject Israel's claims to the region.
