While Roethlisberger probably will play far better than that, the biggest challenge for Jacksonville could be stopping Le'Veon Bell in the running game.
With a forecasted low of 2 degrees in Pittsburgh Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars won't have the luxury of playing in the warm Florida sun when they play the Steelers at Heinz Field in the AFC divisional playoffs. That loss was arguably the Steelers' worst of the season and certainly Roethlisberger's worst individual performance.
They are built to run the ball and play stout defense. Ben Roethlisberger passed for more than 300 yards, but he also threw five interceptions and did not have a touchdown pass. He also compiled 20 tackles including one sack. Fournette rushed for 181 yards, including a 90-yard touchdown run, in the first meeting against the Steelers.
How will the Jaguars approach the game? Pittsburgh K Chris Boswell has made all 15 field goals in playoffs.
ANSWER: The Steelers didn't spend the off week preparing. I went to London to see my first National Football League game in a stadium. Pass rush, linebackers, secondary, their stats. The Jaguars won't be favored, but neither should they be overlooked. It could possibly work, but I think eventually Campbell would shut it down. Nor should any team with a defense as fast and furious as the Jaguars. His volume of throws might be smaller than most quarterbacks, but to me if the Jaguars have any shot at winning this game it will have to be a narrow win.
Roethlisberger will be playing in his 21st career postseason game while Bortles will be playing in his second. The Jaguars dominated the game, winning 30-9 at Heinz Field.
Around 100 fans are planning to pack two tour buses Saturday night and make the drive to Pittsburgh by game time Sunday afternoon. Bortles hasn't responded to those potshots with vitriol in the past and he continues to have an even keel about it heading into this weekend's game against the Steelers.
Over the next 11 games, Roethlisberger threw 22 TDs, just seven interceptions and had a QB rating of 102.7.
Little, if anything, changed down the stretch while Jacksonville continued to struggle. Injuries have ravaged their receiving corps.
All-Pro vs. All-Pro, undoubtedly the most intriguing matchup of the postseason game. The defense is slowly adjusting to life without Ryan Shazier, Joe Haden has returned, and Roethlisberger's elite once again. The Jaguars led the National Football League with a 68.5 opponents' passer rating, and Jimmy Garoppolo is the only quarterback to post a passer rating in triple digits against Jacksonville. Both Smith and Posluszny missed the Jaguars Wednesday practice. The Steelers are healthy, rested, and should take care of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
All the talk is about the injury to cornerback Artie Burns but it could be the injury to defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt that hurts the Steelers more.
Jacksonville (10-6) is at Pittsburgh (13-3).
A healthy core group of Steelers may not bode well for the Jags, no matter how strong their defense is. The Jaguars coach at the time, Tom Coughlin, quickly identified the Steelers as the team to beat, and he set about building a team and a front office to do just that. The Steelers are run by a different coach with a different philosophy, and if they're able to get past the Jaguars, perhaps the Patriots and Steelers can get together to organize this game to be played in Haiti. Roethlisberger would back off those comments later that week, but he made it clear last week that he wanted a chance at redemption.
A member of the Broncos' Super Bowl 50 championship team, Jackson knows the best way for another Super Bowl run goes through the Jaguars' defense.
Yet, last year's Dolphins have a lot of striking similarities to the Jaguars.
