Yet, as Apple devotees are well aware, there's no reason to doubt the tech giant.
While it's possible delivery times have held steady for HomePod because no one wants one, the preponderance of evidence suggests software was always to blame for the delay.
I take that back.
Audio quality is beautifully warm, yet the bass is not overpowering, even though it was still quite rich. Apple didn't offer a specific reason for the delay, only saying that it needed a little more time to make sure things were flawless for customers.
Finally, Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You is also much better than what has come before with loads of attack - but this tune relies heavily on the high frequencies, so perhaps it's no surprise it sounds so good on the HomePod. A speaker and a home assistant, it's a little on the pricier side of the scale for £320. Legions of Apple fans will buy them regardless, but it'll be interesting to test Siri's DJ and assistant abilities in the real world outside of test conditions, alongside the audio quality. With the Apple device, there are now no cheaper options. The company has posted environmental data showing that the HomePod uses no more than 9.25W of power when playing music at 50 percent volume. In a widely passed-around post, the venture capitalist M.G. Siegler wondered whether Amazon was so far ahead that HomePod was essentially dead on arrival.
Some people only go for Apple when it comes to technology.
But for anyone who isn't an Apple Music user, you'll have to control the music from your phone. "It will be fun to see what happens here". Apple says the update is due out this spring.
And that, my friends, is marketing "Apple style". The speakers will "communicate with each other" through AirPlay 2. It would have excited potential customers to preorder the HomePod. They're right about everything, or so they think.
By comparison, the HomePod only works with Apple Music, which requires a $9.99 monthly subscription and has no free, ad-supported option. Not tomorrow. Not next month. Now. Because you can buy an Echo from $49.99 to $229.99, with the latter having a screen included. This meant that Apple missed the holiday season, when it was sold millions of these devices. If the speaker works remarkably better than Echo or Home it may be worth the extra $200 or more over Echo and Home.
