Texas A&M has sweated out two close Southeastern Conference wins.
The Aggies have lost four straight in the series to the Tide, including a 41-23 loss the last time Alabama visited College Station.
The Tide has beaten Vanderbilt and Ole Miss by a combined 125-3 in the past two weeks, and into the teeth of that defense steps Texas A&M true freshman quarterback Kellen Mond, who has had success running as well as throwing.
Damien Harris looked like he set the tone early on for Alabama in its 27-19.
Outside of that there weren't many big plays, but he helped move the chains and moved Alabama to 6-0 on the season. His father, Averion, formed a relationship with then-University of Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.
"There are no moral victories in this league", Sumlin said.
"They're a very explosive offensive team, and they've run the ball very effectively", Alabama coach Nick Saban said of the Aggies. "All that stuff you write about how good we are? It's like poison. Like rat poison". "He said 'What's wrong with you today?' I said 'My girlfriend broke up with me.' He said 'Well, you've got one problem, but if you keep treating the customers bad you're going to have two more".
Stallings, a member of Bear Bryant's Junction Boys squad in the mid-1950s, coached at A&M from 1965-71 and was acknowledged along with other members of the '67 team with 3:16 remaining in the second quarter.
Records: Alabama 5-0, 2-0 in SEC; A&M 4-1, 2-0.
The Aggies weren't quite done, as they forced Alabama into a quick 3 and out and the 12th Man, Cullen Gillaspia, blasted through off the right side to block the Alabama punt for a safety and send most of the 101,000 people in attendance into a frenzy.
After forcing a three-and-out on Alabama's next drive, punter J.K. Scott kicked the ball just 19 yards to start the fourth quarter, setting the Aggies up with key field position on their own 47-yard line. Despite starting six freshmen and two sophomores, A&M seriously challenged No. 1 Alabama.
An even bigger concern for the Aggies might be their inconsistent defense that's tasked with slowing down Alabama's multi-dimensional offense. He completed 13 of 22 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. That was almost 40 yards below his average. Harris ran away from the Texas A&M defense for a 75-yard touchdown that gave Alabama a 7-3 lead with 9:46 left in the first quarter. Something else to make note of is the fact that Hurts has both rushed and passed for over 100 yards in three of the first five games this season.
The Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 SEC) sacked Mond four times in all and won the turnover battle 3-1 paving the way for the win.
When you are a 26.5-point underdog and playing against Alabama, you have to win the turnover battle.
"At the end of the day, it's another game, a tough road environment that we have to play in", Hurts said, "and we have to be ready". "That's how Alabama is".
