MONEY Magazine, which released its rankings in July, placed the college 14th among all public colleges and universities in the nation, and 24th overall.
The institutions appearing on the "Best Regional Universities" list provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master's programs, but offer few, if any, doctoral programs. Assessment by peers and counselors, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving rate also impacted the rankings. "This ranking is created to improve the conversation we are having about this important component of a university's mission, and allow students to make informed global comparisons", QS research director Ben Sowter said.
With the June 2017 announcement of membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, BJU became eligible for the first time to be considered for USN&WR rankings. Delivered at 11 a.m. Monday-Friday.
The Ivy League school has an enrollment of 5,400 students and charges them about $47,000 a year in tuition and fees - though it wasn't the most expensive university near the top of the list.
This marks the 34 edition of Best Colleges publication since the rankings began being recorded in 1983. Western is one of four IL public universities appearing in the top 100.
Hampton University ranked third on the list, behind Spelman and Howard respectful. Only schools in the top half of the U.S. News Best Colleges ranking are included because U.S. News considers the most significant values to be among colleges that perform well academically.
Indeed, the University was recognized for having one of the best engineering programs in its College of Engineering, ranking number 56 in the category of "Top Programs at Engineering Schools Whose Highest Degree is a Doctorate". UC students earn a collective $65 million annually, working for more than 1,800 local, regional, national and global employers, including Apple, Boeing, Disney, Duke Energy, P&G, General Electric, HBO, Fisher Price, Nike, Kroger, Toyota, and NASA among many others.
The College of Engineering is ranked 34th among public universities with doctoral programs, up from 41st previous year.
