USA ready to use 'full range' of options on North Korea

The question is what happens next in the world's most unsafe hot spot.

The upcoming military exercises by the US and South Korea occur every year.

Kim Jong Un's government has always denounced the joint exercises as a provocative ruse created to hide a US invasion.

However, the current USA approach in dealing with North Korea is based on diplomacy and economic sanctions, he has emphasized.

South Korea finance minister said on Wednesday the government will act to stabilize financial markets if they become more volatile because of tensions between Pyongyang and Washington, but noted markets are already showing signs of stability.

While visiting Moon at the Blue House on the afternoon of August 14, Dunford explained that the primary objective of the USA military is to support the United States government's efforts to put diplomatic and economic pressure [on North Korea], and that it is preparing military options in the event that such efforts fail.

The Defence Secretary Mr Mattis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have also penned an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal.

"He says that now is not the time to propose talks then" urges North Korea to come to the table, said Park. But it is also an issue between the North and the United States. "The difference now is the war of words".

Despite calls for Trump to tone down the rhetoric and end the back-and-forth with Kim, the president continued to make his point, saying Friday that the U.S. military is "locked and loaded".

Last week North Korea's military announced it was working on a plan to "contain" the U.S. air, naval, and missile bases on the Pacific island of Guam by firing four intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBMs) to "envelop" it.

Fan cited the U.S. deployment of the THAAD anti-missile system in South Korea, the activities of USA warships in the South China Sea, and Taiwan, which receives United States military aid and which Beijing considers a rebel island. "The government will risk everything to prevent war".

"Military adventures and threats of force [are] unacceptable", the Russians added.

The suspension of coal imports deprives North Korea of massive income as it totalled $1.2 billion past year. The head of the White House has also warned that the american army was ready. "And the North won't be able to endure it", he said, "I want to warn the North that it must stop this unsafe brinkmanship".

Dunford said President Donald Trump "has told us to develop credible, viable military options, and that's exactly what we're doing".

"I don't think they were made with an absolute intention for a military action", Moon said.

- China urges dialogue -China, which is suspected of failing to enforce past United Nations measures, accounts for 90 percent of North Korea's trade. State media reported that leader Kim Jong Un was watching USA moves before deciding to order the test. A mass movement of North Korean troops and weapons toward the border; the arrival of American warships; the evacuation of 200,000 American civilians, and far more expat Chinese, from South Korea; the elevation of the Defcon military alert status.

China says the system affects its own security because of its powerful radar, and will do nothing to ease tension with North Korea.

Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that there was "no question" that the United States will discuss any military plans with South Korea before acting.

However, CIA director Mike Pompeo assured there was "nothing imminent" in the USA standoff with nuclear-armed North Korea.
